With process automation forcing its way through minerals processing
plants, now even some of the measurement and control applications
thought too difficult are coming to the fore.
The PLA SmartDiver is one such a device. It is a ruggedised mud diver
that provides measurements of mud levels, settling zones and overflow
clarity in thickeners/clarifiers and washers / decanters. Tank profiling
(Suspended solids Vs depth) is also provided. Process engineers
armed with this kind of data can attack process optimisation of
flocculation and underflow density control head-on. Operations can
almost cease manual “bombing” of the tanks and get detailed analysis
of what is flowing in and out of their tankage.
Ultrasonic technology has been discarded by PLA for the SmartDiver
making way for a cheaper, newer, more robust sensor technology.
The open platform where PLA use standard brand name PLC’s and
motor drives etc., ensure bugs or faults after commissioning are more
easily eliminated. Remote GSM dial-in communications helps here
also and is supplied standard with almost everything in the PLA range.
The SmartDiver Compact addresses the size issue of the PLA diver
range reducing the size of the device by almost ½.
Rather than needing to compromise low-end clarity measurement
accuracy with high-end heavy mud rangeability, PLA have introduced
the SmartDiver Duo, 2-probe design offering a clarity and a heavy
mud probe in the one device.
With the installation of a SmartDiver into a Kalgoorlie gold mine, PLA
strongly believes their offering to the alumina, nickel, copper/uranium,
mineral sands, and now gold mining industries is complete.
